Google Reader Notifier 1.0.3 - New Stuff!

Thanks to Tim Dallmann, there’s now a new release of Google Reader Notifier. Here’s the changelist:

  • A new preference option to “Start when windows starts”
  • The default item in the context menu (Go to Reader) is now bold
  • The app now checks for updates immediately after any preference changes are made.
  • The setup now defaults to installation for everyone
  • New icon for notification of unread items.
  • Code Cleanup using fxcop

Don’t you just love Open Source?

I’ve also decided to move the downloads page to the Google Code project.

Please note that you should uninstall the old version before you install this one.

Google Reader Notifier 1.0.2

Another very small update for the Google Reader Notifier… now when you double-click on the icon, it’ll immediately take you to the Google Reader homepage. I have no clue why I didn’t add that in the first place.

As always, leave feature requests in the comments.

Google Reader Notifier 1.0.1

I’ve updated the Google Reader Notifier to show a different tray icon when there are updates. Now it’ll show a shrunk version of the original icon, but with a little exclamation point. It’s not the greatest icon, but it does the job. If anybody has a better idea for an icon, let me know.

If you click on the icon, it will revert back to the original icon. Also if you click the “unread items” text on the popup (which will open google reader), then the icon reverts back to normal.

If you click the X to close the popup, then the icon will stay the same.

Added Installer for Google Reader Notifier

I’ve finally done the obvious: added an installer for the Google Reader Notifer application. Now you don’t have to bother figuring out where to put it. Just run the installer and it’s all good to go.

The installer will automatically add the notifier to your startup folder, so it should start up with windows. There’s not currently a preference to turn this off, although I imagine I could add one if I really felt like it. I also added a bugfix for the notification sometimes showing behind other windows… it should now show up in front.

The next version will show the new items in the menu when you click on the icon, the same way the Mac version does. You’ll be able to turn the preference on/off as well as set the number of items.

Announcing Google Reader Notifier for Windows (Alpha)

I’m a big fan of Google Reader, but I don’t always have firefox right in front of me, so I sometimes don’t notice when new items come in. There’s a great notifier for Mac already, but nothing for windows… until now.

I was originally trying to make this version work the same as the Mac version, but that’s not completely possible, so I went a little off track.

When you get new items, you’ll get this popup menu, that slides in similarly to the Google Talk new mail notification (You can also turn this off if you want, although it wouldn’t be very helpful)

There’s also an icon in the tray that you can hover your mouse over to see the current count:

If you right click the icon in the tray, you can check right away, go to the reader home page, or launch the preferences page.

The preferences page has a number of options that will look similar to the Mac version:

You can specify more than one item in the label filter box by just putting a space between items.
