Windows Client for del.icio.us

As my first post here, I’m announcing the availability of my Windows client for the del.icio.us social bookmarking site.

I got tired of using the web-based interface to search through my ~1700 links, so I wrote a little client using C# to let me easily find links.

Keep in mind that this is VERY ALPHA, so don’t expect everything to work.

It’s a really simple application, not really much to it… but it does exactly what I need it to. You can put any feature requests as comments to this blog post.

To get it, click the link on the left hand side that says “local delicious”.

  1. This would be great on my computer. Except that I run on a proxy connection and the program is just eternally ‘connecting to server’.

    I like the idea though.

  2. Dan,

    Added to feature request list.

Are you using a regular proxy, or socks ?

  3. Thanks! I’m just on a regular proxy.

  4. Lowell,

If you use Firefox, you might want to check out this plugin:

    del.icio.us Bookmarks
    documentation / install:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3615/
    screenshot: https://addons.mozilla.org/images/previews/del.icio.us_bookmarks-1.jpg

It replaces the default bookmarks UI and local datastore with your del.icio.us account. The search functionality shows matching results from both tags and titles in a stacked UI (as seen in the screenshot linked above).

pretty slick, if you’re a FF user. perhaps, since this came straight from yahoo, they’ll release an IE plugin as well.

  5. stuart,

I was aware of that plugin for Firefox. The issue that I have is that it doesn’t allow me to really quickly search through my bookmarks at the touch of a hotkey.

Also, I like to have my bookmark toolbar with direct links to my most commonly used bookmarks, bookmarklets and such. That plugin makes it difficult to achieve the same UI experience i’m used to because it replaces everything.
